Governor Charlie Baker swore in Senate and House members in separate ceremonies on January 2.
Senate President Karen Spilka (D-Ashland) was elected to her first full-term as Senate president. In her remarks to the Senate, Spilka laid out an ambitious legislative agenda that includes increasing education funding, ensuring mental health parity, tackling climate change, fixing our transportation system and creating more livable neighborhoods.
“As we begin our new legislative session, I am committed to making sure we invite all voices to the table. And if we find that our current table isn’t big enough, we will build a bigger table. Together, we will work to create a better Commonwealth,” Spilka said.
Spilka represents the Metrowest communities of Ashland, Framingham, Franklin, Holliston, Hopkinton and Medway, which comprise the 2nd Middlesex and Norfolk district.
Rep. Jack Patrick Lewis (D- Framingham) was sworn in to begin his second term in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Lewis represents the 7th Middlesex district, which includes Ashland and parts of Framingham.
“It was a great honor to again be sworn in to represent and advocate for Ashland and Framingham in the Massachusetts House,” Lewis said. “I look forward to the year ahead and remain committed to working closely with local leaders to ensure that our families have their voices heard on Beacon Hill.”
