Franklin 4th Celebration to Take Place July 3-7th

The Franklin July 4th Coalition is once again continuing the tradition of a several-day celebration at the Franklin Town Common of our nation’s birthday. The all-volunteer effort, headed up by Joe Carmignani and Paul Kortick, is entirely privately funded. (Visit for details, and to donate or volunteer!)
The carnival on the Town Common will start on Wednesday, July 3rd and will end on Sunday, July 7th. The fireworks are back again as well and will take place at 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 6th at the Franklin High School.
The Franklin July 4th Coalition has worked with Franklin Recreation department on the annual road races, which will be held on the morning of July 6th. (see sidebar for details). July 6th will also be Children’s Day, which will include:
• A Children’s Bike Parade at 12:30 p.m., sponsored by the Franklin Lions Club
• Flippo the Juggling Magician from 1-3 p.m., and
• DJ Mike Rutkowski, an interactive entertainer who spins music while engaging with games, contests and fun dances, from 4-6 p.m.
Each night, musical entertainment is planned. At publication time, here’s who’s coming:
• Wednesday, July 3 – Backyard Swagger, a country-rock cover band from central Massachusetts
• Thursday, July 4 –
Hot Tamale Brass Band, performing New Orleans jazz, festive Mardi Gras, Dixieland and more
Matt Zajac, 25-year veteran influenced by Aerosmith, Black Crowes, Rolling Stones and more.
ZOD, four-piece band fusing high energy rock and heavy funk
• Friday, July 5 – Groove Doctors, 5-piece rock, soul, blues, funk whirlwind
• Saturday, July 6 – Duppy Conquerors, a Bob Marley tribute band consisting of some of Boston’s best reggae musicians
• July 7th (TBD)
In addition, the following groups had confirmed booths:
• Franklin Rod & Gun Club: ( - fried dough, French fries
• Franklin Rotary Club
• Franklin Democrats: -- Pizza and water
• Franklin July 4th Coalition: -- soda, seltzer, ice cream
• Franklin Republicans: -- corn dogs, nachos, root beer floats
• Temple Etz Chaim: -- soft pretzels, lemonade, scratch tickets
• Knights of Columbus: -- hamburgers, hot dogs, Gatorade
